The Artificer by OdinsBeadHall The Artificer by OdinsBeadHall
I absolutely LOVE how this piece turned out. I was throwing a bunch of things together and this is what crapped out.

So, I was bad. While I was *supposed* to be working, I did a few flat spiral bracelets. I have two I will be posting for sale, but this piece belongs to my personal collection. I would be happy to make another one just for you though, just ping me!

This piece was made with grey opal 6mm bicones, two bermuda blue cubes, 3 & 4 mm crystal golden shadow bicones, all accented with matte black delicas. The charm in the center adds a bit of victorian/steampunk feel to it. I love this piece a lot! ^^

Very intriguing design and love the color combos. The 'opal' colors that Swarovski puts out are just amazing. A piece similar done w/the color changing cantaloupe beads would be very very interesting indeed. Yes it definitely has a victori-punk feel - not steampunk in & of itself I think its the color combination of the golden shadow giving an aged brass/bronze feel and the grey opal being close to one of the more commonly seen Victorian colors but with a modern twist. The matte black delicas are what set the piece off for me - so much shiny in the crystals that I think shiny black delicas would have made the piece appear overdone instead the result is just right and definitely a piece to keep for yourself.

I'm just getting started in detailed beadwork after many years away and am very curious to know what weave this is as it looks quite complicated but the result is stunning overall!

Thanks so much for your detailed comment! I'm so glad you like this piece, It's still one of my favorites.

This weave is called the Flat Spiral stitch, it's incredibly easy, and I just added a charm for the effect.

There are loads of tutorials on it in the web.

Heehee. This is done in a pattern called Flat Spiral Stitch. It's a pretty simple weave, you just gotta be careful with what thread you use, it tends to snap in inconvenient places XD

The main gems that you have in the middle as well as the stone in the gold charm look purple to me...or maybe it's just my computer? ^^; I don't know. :XD:

Haha, you're welcome! :D

Very cool piece, I really like this style! I agree that it really accents and draws the attention to the center bead. Also I like the design in this one with the two square beads and the pendant, pretty!

(it's got to be nice to make up your own jewelry instead of buying it all the time! )

You could experiment with reducing the number of seed beads. If you use smaller core beads you need less seed beads. Try using one less per side at first and see if it helps.

The rows hold each other down. The first row will slip a little bit but once you do a few beads they should hold each other in place.

Good luck! Oh and did you see my maille bracelet yet? I posted it yesterday! /sulk

Try using a stiffer beading cord. Though I've never really had any problems with it using nymo.

Actually this one was originally done in freshwater pearls. I did about three rows then gave up, the needle didn't want to go through nicely :/

Works just fine with swarovski pearls though, I got another one I'm uploading later today made with them.

I have quite a collection of glass pearls with nice large holes for easier stringing. I think they will do nicely. This pattern works up really fast!
